An old silversmith was standing one day over a large vessel that was boiling over a roaring fire. His face was smeared with sweat and ashes; it was weather-beaten and weary. Yet he smiled as he stared at the metallic gray liquid, because he knew it was being perfected. A while later, one of the old silversmith's apprentices walked by and wondered what the old man was smiling about. The young apprentice stared into the rippling liquid and asked the old man, "Sir, how do you know when the silver is perfect, free from impurities I mean?"
The old man replied, " Well son you see, how I know that this silver is done being perfected is when I see my reflection in the silver liquid." He turned back to the pot and continued watching his silver...waiting to see his reflection.
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
James 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Just like the old silversmith, God is watching over each of His children's lives, putting us through the test of fire and trials to burn away our imperfections....and make us more like Him.
1Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
